MID-SIZED SCULPTURES
TURBULENCE & CALM...

Threat Binds Us Together I & 2
1978/1979
Bronze / Nails / Sand
Two of these sculptures - Threat Binds Us Together I & 2 - are columns with the central theme of the push and pull of language. Language, represented by words, reaches out to connect, but is kept at a
distance by the spikes that repel the viewer. The column rests in a base of sand inside a steel container.

Parameters

Cast iron / Nails

In making Parameters the third cast iron pillar (with polished steel base), the artist, still thinking of transmission of language, provided a limited sized opening in the column through which people on opposite sides of the sculpture could speak to one another. And despite the spikes above, the opening in the pillar gives them a focused opportunity to communicate.
